Introducing the G&G SGR556 AEG!
We built this gun as an excuse to get an inside look at the internals.
G&G is really taking initiative in terms of stepping away from the traditional AEG gearbox with this one. We've noted several quality of life improvements over traditional AEGs and some extremely unique hopup 'pusher' rod style design.

Though with some parts being proprietary its good to know there are still tons of wiggle room if you want to have it upgraded.

Initially the gun shoots around 395FPS +/-5 on semi auto, and drops as low as 330fps on full auto. There is clearly tappet timing issues which we will fix and address later. This is just the initial FPS readings.

In this version, we built it to be refined internally. We noted that G&G opted for 2.5mm W Type 8mm Ball bearings, unfortunately 2.5mm vs 3mm thick bearings is no contest, its easily 30% weaker compared to its larger brother we use. Due to how the ambi selector works, you can't install 3mm bearings in these. So we opted for bushings instead to keep that failure point impossible. The gears are the same as their G2 series, even the gearset are stamped with "G2". So we were able to change these out for 14:1 SHS Gearset. However we did have to lathe down the Spur gear similar to how Krytac spur gears are shorter on the "G2" series.

Wires are neatly snug with the gearbox's tabs with no possible way to strip the wires with the pinion.

The MOSFET seems well built overall. However I would like to see G&G use slightly thicker upper and lower board connections as they are pretty thin. I don't think they route any serious current and purely is for connecting sensors to the other side of the board. However with frequent handling it could risk being damaged. They also opted for a purely optical setup with no physical switches. As well as a single screw mount which can be removed if the upper and lowers are split apart.

As with most AEGs built it seems like tappet timing is a huge concern. The delayer chip is massive, with extremely small window which the air nozzle stays forward before being pulled back again. This is the reason why FPS drops so significantly in full auto. We short stroked the gearset so that the piston is released earlier and now shoots consistently with full auto.

The inner barrel can be upgraded, however the hopup unit itself cannot due to the forward hopup adjustment dial. However feel free to change out buckings and nubs to your hearts content.
